Dusthana houses:

6th, 8th and 12th.

Evaluation of strength of these houses. Let us begin with simple cases, evaluate and get to a conclusion.

In order to suppress the bad effects given out from any of the dusthana house, either we a need a functional malefic planet in a dusthana house OR dusthana house lord to be strong.

1. Functional malefic planet could be
  • Debilitated planet
  • Planet in enemy sign

Here Venus is debilitated in the 6th house thus killing the negativity of the house. It will better if a malefic gets debilitated in dusthana house. Basic idea is a debilitated planet is energy deficient causing extracting energy out of the house and in this case, it is depleting negative energy radiated by a dusthana house.
Note: Though Debilitated Venus placement will give good results to 6th house, it is going to destroy 2nd and 7th house as Venus is the lord of these houses.

2. Dusthana lord being strong.
  • dusthana lord in exaltation, own sign or friendly sign.
  • dusthana lord placed in kendra or trikon.
As you see in the example, 8th lord becomes exalted and hence gains strength. No question Jupiter exaltation is good for 8th house as discussed, but it is going to harm houses aspected by it. Further adding to malefic nature in present case, Jupiter is also a functional malefic for Tauras lagna making situation worse. Jupiter now aspects 3rd (placement), 7th, 9th and 11th houses destroying the signifcations of these mentioned houses.
As you see in the example, 12th lord gains strength by getting placed in 5th house. But again, it is going to diminish the significations of the 5th house.

Below is case of a mixed results based from the points listed above:

Lord of 8th house is debilitated making the house weak, but a strong malefic Saturn kills the negativity of the 8th house. As a whole, we can expect mixed results.

Live examples with events and facts.

This person has a Tauras lagna and as we know Jupiter becomes functional malefic (mooltrikona sign of Jupiter is dusthana house) being the lord of 8th and 11th house. In this native chart, Jupiter is placed in his mooltrikona sign. So one will feel him to be fortunate with this placement. Interestingly it is tricky.

Let us analyze some key points.

Jupiter, a planet of expansion attaining strength increases the negativity of the 8th house.
Result: 8th house (also wealth house of partner) indicates inheritance from in-laws / wealth of partner (2nd from 7th); as you see in this case, he was not very beneficial in this respect.
Jupiter continues his damage by aspecting 12th (denotes post marriage life), 2nd house (wealth, liquid assets) and 4th house (home, fixed assets). From the chart it is evident that his post marriage life is going to be challenged.
